Diary of an average angler

Who favours traditional methods & baits

fisherman

This diary dates back to a holiday in 2003 when I think the urge to get back into fishing took off. From around 2007 the trips became more frequent with 2010/11 probably being the peak of activity.
Things again pick up in 2020 - a sort of rebirth!

Market Drayton (5)

Evening session from 18.00 to 21.40

A change of tactics. I bought some luncheon meat and upgraded to 6lb line with an 8 hook. The weather remained warm and still.

Cast luncheon meat on free line, no weights. A take came almost immediately and after a real battle I landed a 3lb 8oz tench. It tried for the lilies and the rushes; it just wouldn’t give in.

Shortly after I caught a 3lb 1oz tench and it had my lost hook in its mouth.

A couple of small roach/rudd followed, still on luncheon meat, and then a fine 14oz rudd to finish off the day.
