Diary of an average angler

Who favours traditional methods & baits

fisherman

This diary dates back to a holiday in 2003 when I think the urge to get back into fishing took off. From around 2007 the trips became more frequent with 2010/11 probably being the peak of activity.
Things again pick up in 2020 - a sort of rebirth!

Fields End (18)

Buoyed by last week's success I went back to the reed corner, but the wind on this occasion was much stronger and it proved very difficult to control my favourite free-lining approach. I resorted to light legering in the end but the day was really a disaster.

During the morning I lost a number of fish, both in the reeds and during playing. I was broken on one occasion.

My tally for the day amounted to one small common carp, about 3lb, and a crucian carp of about half a pound taken when legering. I lost count of the number of fish I lost, and the number of times I became snagged in the reeds, resulting in so many lost hooks that a trip to the tackle shop was necessary to re-stock.

All in all a very bad day, but to be fair nobody was catching, although in appears that the previous day was a bumper affair with one pair of anglers taking over 100lb of carp; the fish were obviously recovering from their excesses!
