Diary of an average angler

Who favours traditional methods & baits

fisherman

This diary dates back to a holiday in 2003 when I think the urge to get back into fishing took off. From around 2007 the trips became more frequent with 2010/11 probably being the peak of activity.
Things again pick up in 2020 - a sort of rebirth!

Block Fen (9)

After Tuesday’s success I decided to try another evening session. Unfortunately my corner spot was taken by the only other angler on the lake. I decided to fish the opposite NW corner while waiting to see if the other chap left early.

Casting into the corner was difficult and I had to use a light leger. Getting close to the reeds was very challenging and I only managed it on about three casts. I lost two hooks in the trees for my trouble. Even when I did ‘hit the spot’ there were no takes, only trembles from smaller fish. There were signs of fish movement on the opposite bank but I didn’t have the tackle to cast that far.

I decided to wait until 19.00 and as the other chap was showing no signs of packing up I called it a day. A bit disappointing really, as conditions were perfect for my usual spot.
