Block Fen (10)
I was undecided today as to whether to go back to Block Fen or go to Fields End. In the end as the forecast was for fresh SW breeze, which is always difficult at Fields End, I decided to return to Block Fen after yesterday evening’s disappointment.
I arrived about 07.15 and there was nobody there. The lake is fairly sheltered and the southern end, where I fish, is protected from southerly winds. In fact, conditions seemed ideal and there were signs of fish moving in the reeds.
So far so good, but reality kicked in. I cast flake and then luncheon meat to the edge of the reeds using free-line with a small stick indicator, and then actually into gaps in the reeds, but no takes. It was frustrating as fish were obviously moving around the bait judging by the reed movements.
After a couple of hours of this I decided to put on a small leger weight as my neck was getting stiff from concentrating on the small stick indicator. I dropped the leger into gaps in the reeds down the nearside margin, which I would have thought to be carp hotspots, but yet again not a touch.
I stuck it out to 12.30 and then decided to call it a day. Really disappointing as the lake looked so promising. Two blanks on the trot now at Block Fen, although I didn’t get the spot I wanted yesterday evening so who knows whether or not I would have had more luck if I had.
